If Leeds United’s likely Premier League safety hasn’t surprised Simon Jordan, the continued availability of Dominic Calvert-Lewin has.

Wins for Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Tottenham at the weekend ate into Leeds’ advantage over the relegation candidates – but they still seem set to survive their first season back in the top flight.

As things stand they have a six point gap on the bottom three with only four games remaining – including imminent clashes with Spurs and Burnley.

While former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan doesn’t find that especially comment-worthy, he admits the fact the striker has played 31 of United’s 34 matches is worth noting.

“I expected Leeds to stay up, I didn’t expect the furore about Daniel Farke to form the thinking for the first quarter of the season,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“But notwithstanding that, I expected Leeds [to stay up], given the scale of the football club. Calvert-Lewin is a revelation for me, the fact he has kept himself fit and provided a real threat.

“I watched your team batter Palace at Christmas, batter them. And no-one’s really given Leeds a hard-time beside Arsenal in the last four or five months.”

Calvert-Lewin’s form has seen him score 11 league goals this term and earn a recall to the England set-up, albeit he fluffed his big chance to put himself further up Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order when he missed a free header against Uruguay.

He has though, put his recent injury struggles behind him, having missed 12 league games at Everton last season.
