On Wednesday 22nd of April, Yarrells School and Nursery in Poole welcomed back Shirley Critchley, 93, who gave a talk to Year 6 pupils about sporting legacy and her school memories.

Critchley— who was also ranked as forth in the world for her age group— also reminisced about her student days and answered questions from pupils.”

A spokesperson for the school said: “Fondly reminiscing about her time at the school, Shirley shared treasured memories and offered a wonderful glimpse into Yarrells’ rich and storied history.

“A highlight of the visit saw a group of Year 6 pupils enjoy an engaging question-and-answer session with Shirley, who drew on her remarkable career to inspire the next generation.

“With insight, experience, and a clear passion for the game, she captivated her young audience and left a lasting impression on pupils and staff alike.

“Thank you, Shirley, for your valuable insights into both tennis and Yarrells’ history. Your visit has inspired our pupils in the most wonderful way.”
