A second successive relegation and the need to adjust to League One finances means Leicester City’s squad will look very different next season.

There’s got to be a firesale to rake in the cash that they won’t bring in through TV and sponsorship money. But who will go and who will remain to form the skeleton of next season’s City squad?

Here, we take a look at the futures of the 26 players in the current squad on permanent contracts, plus the five first-team players out on loan.

Jakub Stolarczyk – KEEP

City’s number one could fetch interest, as he was a target for Norwich last season. But he’s perhaps one they should try to keep hold of. He should be one of the best goalkeepers in the division, has room to improve as he plays more football, and clearly cares about the club.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.

Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.

Asmir Begovic – RELEASE

He’s out of contract and so that very likely means he’s heading for the exit. City should get in a younger option to compete with Stolarczyk.

Fran Vieites – SELL

He played in Real Betis’s run to the Europa Conference League final 12 months ago, and so there should be interest from Spain in his services, potentially giving City a chance to make a small bit of cash.

Stevie Bausor – LOAN

The young goalkeeper has only just recovered from a serious injury and so needs time out on loan to get experience.

Ricardo Pereira – RELEASE

After eight years, it’s time to say goodbye to Ricardo as he comes to the end of his contract. It’s a shame it’s ended this way for a player who was one of the most talented full-backs in the Premier League during his first couple of seasons.

Bade Aluko – KEEP

He can pass and dribble, and he’s got speed to make up ground, Aluko could be a big talent and he could be set for a big season at City, either at full-back or centre-back.

Woyo Coulibaly – SELL

On loan at Sassuolo in Serie A, he’s played often enough recently that he may be of interest for a permanent move in the summer. But if not Sassuolo, it feels another club for the full-back needs to be found. It would be a huge surprise if his City career was reignited.

Victor Kristiansen – SELL

He’s another that would perhaps have interest from Italy given his success with Bologna there a couple of seasons ago. But that’s only if he can prove his fitness. He’s had a torrid time with injuries, and that may put clubs off.

Luke Thomas – KEEP

He signed a long-term contract last year and that’s likely to be one that keeps him at the club next season. It would give City a first-choice left-back, and one less position to think about strengthening.

Jannik Vestergaard – SELL

It feels like it’s time to move on from Vestergaard, but City may struggle to do that. He turns 34 in August and so there won’t be a clamour for his signature. But if the opportunity is there, he’s one City need to sell.

Jamaal Lascelles – RELEASE

City have not seen the best of the experienced defender, and it’s likely they won’t do, with his contract now up. They don’t need his wages in League One.

Ben Nelson – SELL

As much as it may pain supporters, Nelson will be on the sale list. After Fatawu, he is the club’s most profitable asset. Athletic, ball-playing English centre-backs attract interest from the top clubs, and City will need to make the most of that.

Caleb Okoli – SELL

There should be enough interest from Italy in Okoli that they are able to sell him this summer. Albeit, City won’t get anywhere close to recouping the £15m they spent on him.

Harry Souttar – SELL

Like Nelson, he’s a player many fans will want to keep, with injuries meaning he bears no responsibility for this relegation. But just as he’s made his comeback, he will be set to go.

If he proves his fitness with Australia at the World Cup over the summer, expect interest from Sheffield United or other Championship clubs.

Wout Faes – SELL

Faes’ huge success on loan at Monaco, helping lift them from mid-table towards the European spots, means City should not have any trouble selling the Belgian this summer.

Hamza Choudhury – KEEP

Choudhury is a contentious one. He seemed to be suggesting when he fronted up to supporters after relegation that he wouldn’t be heading anywhere.

But he has a big fan in Chris Wilder, and if Sheffield United come calling with a bid, then there’s potential for a sale.

Harry Winks – SELL

City have the opportunity to sell because of the clause in Winks’ contract that saw it extended by a year following the promotion in 2024.

And they need to use that opportunity. Winks’ relationship with fans has soured beyond a retrievable point. He should attract interest.

Oliver Skipp – KEEP

It’s been a disappointing two years at City for Skipp, and he’s not produced the sort of form that might bring in suitors, or certainly not any that would be willing to pay his book value of around £12m. He could be staying.

Sammy Braybrooke – KEEP

A 22-year-old who has just been named in the League Two team of the year would be the perfect signing for most League One clubs, and so City should keep Braybrooke and give him the chance to become a key player.

Louis Page – KEEP

He’s a talent and so while interest might not reach the levels it does for Monga, there may be a few clubs interested. But with his potential, City should try to avoid a sale and give Page a big role next season.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid – SELL

He’s in a similar boat to Vestergaard in that a sale probably works best for both parties, but clubs may not be willing to pay for a player who is now the wrong side of 30. Perhaps his ability to chip in with goals will garner Championship interest.

Michael Golding – LOAN

He’s not even made the first-team bench this season, and so it feels unlikely he will play a part next term. He needs senior game-time, so City need to find a League Two club who can offer that.

Will Alves – KEEP

He’s not had the best of years at Huddersfield but he’s only going to be 21 next season and so there’s plenty of scope for him to come good yet. With his quick feet and dribbling ability, there’s a role for him at City.

Abdul Fatawu – SELL

He’s City’s most valuable player and must be sold to bring in some cash. Even if he has underwhelmed at points this season, he clearly has a future in the Premier League. Hopefully there’s enough interested parties that City might be able to spark a bidding war.

Stephy Mavididi – SELL

He’s not going to go as high as Fatawu, as he’s older and has not delivered anywhere near as many goals and assists this season. But his performances in the promotion season should mean there are keen Championship clubs. It’s not out of the question that he stays though.

Jeremy Monga – SELL

When he turns 17 in July, his contract becomes a professional one and that should mean City can get a decent fee for him. All of the big hitters in England want him, so he seems destined to leave.

Silko Thomas – KEEP

His contract situation isn’t clear, but if he does have a year or more left on his deal, then he may be worth keeping around. He did seem to be improving game by game before Gary Rowett’s arrival saw him drop out of contention.

Wanya Marcal – RELEASE

He’s not really been involved this season and with his deal up, it does seem like there’s enough reason to renew, especially for a player who will turn 24 early into next term.

Jake Evans – KEEP

He’s shown signs of promise even in a poorly-performing Northampton team, and so should be in a position to make an impact with City next season. He’s definitely one to keep.

Jordan Ayew – RELEASE

His wages, his reputation, and his age mean he has to go when his deal is up this summer. City need a new number nine.

Patson Daka – RELEASE

Twenty-nine goals for £23m over five years means it’s time to let Daka go. He’s got time left in his career to do well somewhere, but it won’t be with City.
