Crystal Palace have opened talks over a deal to sign Wolves star Joao Gomes this summer, according to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella.
The Eagles have enjoyed a decent season and have avoided a relegation battle despite testing results, while they are also in the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League, where they will face off against Shakhtar Donetsk over two legs in the coming weeks.
But with manager Oliver Glasner already confirmed to depart when his contract expires this summer, changes are expected at Selhurst Park, and owner Steve Parish is already making plans on helping to strengthen the squad in the absence of a new manager being in place.
Crystal Palace Hold Talks for Joao Gomes

Gomes, described as ‘insane’, is almost certain to leave Wolves this summer after their relegation to the Championship was confirmed, and GIVEMESPORT sources reported recently that Atletico Madrid had opened talks over a deal for the Brazilian.
Wolves are understood to be expecting him to move on and have put a £40m asking price on his head to ensure they get full value, and that has attracted the interest of several clubs, including south London’s Palace.
According to the report, Palace have held talks with the player’s agents about a move to Selhurst Park, with early interest being explored. Atletico Madrid remain the favourites for his signature at this stage, although they are also very keen on a move for Atalanta star Ederson.
Gomes is open to staying in the Premier League, and Palace are looking to strengthen the midfield with Daichi Kamada expected to depart when his contract ends, while Adam Wharton has also been strongly linked with a move away amid interest from clubs in the Champions League.
Crystal Palace Move for Gomes is Smart

With Palace likely to be raided for their top talent this summer, and knowing they need to find a new manager as well, they need to take as few gambles in the transfer market as they can.
Bringing in a Brazil international who has played and performed well in the Premier League for several seasons would be the exact type of signing to strengthen the team, but also one that would need little adaptation from either side and could see him make an instant impact.
A number of big clubs are also keen on the player, meaning Palace would have to see off some stiff competition to get a deal done, but they can offer regular first-team football, and if they can get a deal for his teammate Santiago Bueno over the line too, that could help them.
