Senne Lammens was instrumental in Manchester United’s win over Brentford.

First-half goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko gave Manchester United a two-goal cushion at half-time.

United’s 2-1 win over Brentford saw the Red Devils remain third in the Premier League, three points adrift of Liverpool and Aston Villa with four games left to play.

With 12 points up for grabs, Michael Carrick’s side need just two points – as things stand – to ensure they will be playing in the Champions League next season.

Fair play, Brentford made us work – but United were more clinical… what changes does Carrick need to make to score more goals?

It’s always a good sign when you have multiple contenders for the man of the match award, but few can deny that Lammens was United’s best player in the first half.

The 23-year-old Belgium international arrived at Old Trafford earlier this season without any Premier League experience, before quickly establishing himself as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.

United agreed a deal worth £18.2m plus add-ons to sign Lammens, although Amorim had wanted the club to sign Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa.

Lammens is an assured presence at the back, and he showed that for the umpteenth time against Brentford.

The young stopper made a great save to keep Michael Kayoude out from point-blank range shortly after United took the lead. He followed it up with two huge saves and dealt with Brentford’s crowding in the box after the break.

Although Lammens was denied a second successive clean sheet, there was a feeling at the full-time whistle that the result could have been different without him.

That doesn’t take anything away from the fact that United deserved three points on the night, but Lammens continued to prove himself as a top signing.

I’d go as far as to say Lammens has been United’s best signing based on performances this season, especially when you consider how many mistakes Onana made in his two years as the first-choice option.

Do Man Utd deserve more credit for being in third place?

Champions League football is almost guaranteed…

Lammens was forced to make five saves against Brentford.

The one black mark on Lammens’ performance was the goal he conceded before stoppage time, but other than that he was sensational.

Lammens punched the ball once and opted to throw the ball three times due to a mixed success rate (63%) for passes.

He also touched the ball 42 times throughout the game.
