Tyrique George arrived at Everton on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window, brought in to provide cover after Jack Grealish’s season‑ending injury.
The 20‑year‑old has had to be patient. He has started just one Premier League game and has yet to register a goal or an assist in his 12 appearances. But his attitude has never wavered, and in a recent interview on Everton’s official site, the winger spoke warmly about his time on Merseyside.

George acknowledged his role as a substitute and made clear his desire to contribute. “It was my job as a sub to come on and try to impact the game. I want to create, score goals and make things happen. I’ll keep working to try to make it happen.”
Despite limited minutes, the Chelsea loanee has embraced life at Hill Dickinson Stadium. “I’m loving it as an Everton player. The boys are great and everyone is so nice here. I want to help us get as many wins as possible. That’s my only aim – to help us get as many wins as we can. We want to get European football and it’s still a possibility for us.”
He also had strong words for the Everton supporters. “The fans are top, they’re really good people. It’s a passionate environment and I love feeling that every time I step on the pitch. I want to play for them.”
Limited minutes and an uncertain permanent future
The reality, however, is that George has struggled to force his way past Iliman Ndiaye, Dwight McNeil and Beto in the attacking rotation. His most extended run came in the 2‑2 draw at Brentford, where he played 16 minutes.
David Moyes praised him after that game: “I like Tyrique. We’ll try to get him more opportunities and minutes when we can. He’s got good control, he wants to score and you saw that today.”
But opportunities have remained scarce. Earlier reports have indicated that George is “likely” to return to Chelsea at the end of his Everton loan, with the expectation that the Toffees will decide against making his loan deal permanent.
Everton holds an option to buy, but the club is planning a significant summer rebuild. Investing in a young player who has barely featured seems improbable.
Tyrique George has shown flashes with his direct running and willingness to take on defenders but he has not done enough to convince Moyes that he is worth a long‑term investment. The manager’s praise has been genuine, but actions speak louder. With four games remaining, George may yet get another chance to impress. If not, he will return to Chelsea having experienced the unique passion of Everton.
Whatever happens this summer, Tyrique George leaves with his reputation intact. He may not have scored or assisted, but he has conducted himself professionally and genuinely connected with the fanbase. That counts for something. And as he said himself: “I want to play for them.” For now, that will have to be enough.
