BRIGHTON produced one of the biggest shocks of the WSL season, overturning an early 1-0 deficit to beat the league leaders 3-2, reports Olivia Clark.

Despite the Citizens’ control, the Seagulls stayed in the game and equalised in first-half stoppage time through Madison Haley, who later added a second. A third Brighton goal from Kiko Seike was enough to secure all three points despite a late Bunny Shaw consolation goal. The victory marks City’s first ever away loss on Brighton’s turf, opening the door for Arsenal to make the most of their remaining games in hand.

Champions elect Man City cruising to WSL title

Chelsea dominated Everton in a 4-1 win, registering more than six times as many shots as the hosts in a one-sided display at Goodison Park. Blues’ striker Sam Kerr scored two to level with Fran Kirby as the club’s all-time top scorer in WSL history, with further goals from Ellie Carpenter and Erin Cuthbert to gain all three points. Chelsea’s four goals were briefly overshadowed by a moment of brilliance as the Toffees’ Yuka Momiki scored a goal from 40 yards out – a definite goal of the season contender.

Leicester failed to win away yet again as they were beaten by the Lionesses’ in their biggest WSL win, beating the Foxes 5-1. With five different goal scorers and 19 total shots, London City are clearly proving themselves as an established topflight team. But with three games to go, relegation play-offs look more and more likely for Leicester.

Spurs will feel they let two points slip after playing out a frustrating 0-0 draw against Manchester United. The Lilywhites registered 22 shots but were unable to convert any of their chances. The result means Spurs remain winless in 14 WSL meetings with United, while their recent run of form has seen them drop out of contention for a European place. The Red Devils themselves continued their longest winless run since becoming a WSL side.

West Ham secured just their second away win of the season thanks to a Cornelia Kapocs own goal to beat Liverpool 1-0. It was a game of little excitement as the Reds failed to pose a serious threat in front of goal despite dominating for large portions of the match. The Hammers will be pleased to snatch the three points as they put further distance between themselves and the relegation play-offs.

With no movement across the table this weekend, attention now turns to Wednesday when Arsenal host Leicester in a rearranged fixture. The Gunners have the chance to capitalise on the leaders’ slip up and put the pressure on the top three with three games in hand.

But the WSL weekend belonged to Brighton.
