West Ham United are preparing for a summer rebuild, with Napoli full-back Mathias Olivera reportedly on their radar.
It has been a dismal campaign for the Hammers, who have spent much of the season battling to preserve their Premier League status.
However, they have turned a corner under Nuno Espirito Santo in 2026 and now sit two points clear of the drop zone with four matches remaining.
Even so, West Ham’s ambitions stretch far beyond a relegation scrap, and the East London club are determined to consign this troubled season to the past if they secure their place in the top flight.
To make that happen, Nuno will be hoping for significant backing in the summer transfer window as he looks to steer the club back up the table.

Napoli could be tempted into Mathias Olivera sale
According to a recent report from Calciomercato, West Ham are among a number of clubs showing interest in Napoli defender Olivera.
The Uruguay international moved to Naples in 2022 and has since played his part in two title-winning campaigns, making 32 appearances as Antonio Conte’s side lifted the 2024-25 Serie A crown.

The report suggests Napoli’s plans for the summer transfer window remain far from settled, with Antonio Conte’s future expected to play a decisive role in shaping their strategy.
Against that backdrop, Olivera is not currently regarded as a player on the market, although their resolve could yet be tested with an offer of the right size.
West Ham are among the clubs credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, while fellow Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest are also said to be monitoring the situation.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, meanwhile, are understood to be keeping close tabs on developments.
West Ham relegation outcome will determine recruitment direction
After a difficult season at the London Stadium, West Ham are in desperate need of a reset this summer.
Whether they remain in the Premier League, however, will have the biggest bearing on how far they can go in the transfer market.

West Ham are a big club, and one with a proven recent pedigree in Europe – a factor that could prove crucial in persuading players to make the move.
Manager Nuno, too, has shown he can propel a side up the table, having guided both Wolves and Nottingham Forest into Europe.
But before any hopeful rebuild can begin, the Hammers must first secure their place in the top flight.
