Nottingham Forest thrash Sunderland away from home to put them 3 more points clear of the relegation zone.

Sunderland were hoping to win to close the gap to the qualifying spots for European football next season, with them being only 4 points away from 6th place Brighton.

The game starts well with Sunderland and Forest both creating chances, but both teams are unsuccessful at leading until 18 minutes in when Forests’ Igor Jesus headers the ball to the goal, which deflects off Trai Hume, giving Forest the lead.

Nottingham Forest go 2-0 up after an error from Robin Roef’s led Chris Wood to intercept the ball which falls into Gibbs-White possession, who delivers an assist as Wood goes on to put the ball behind an empty net.

Only three minutes later and Gibbs-White extended the gap between both teams by another goal with a shot to the bottom left corner with the help from Jesus.

For the first time since 2015, Sunderland conceded 4 goals in the first half as Jesus volleys the ball from the left side of the box into the net.

Two minutes into the second half Jair Cunha makes an awkward landing on his shoulder, seeing him be substituted off for Morato.

A header into goal by Daniel Ballard, from a free kick, was disallowed after Nordi Mukiele fouled Forests’ keeper Matz Sels.

Forest get a final goal in during injury time as Elliot Anderson passes the ball into the goal.

Nottingham Forest are now 8 points clear of the relegation zone.

Sunderland will be looking to beat Wolves in their upcoming feature in hopes that they can make their way up the table. However, for Sunderland to gain a European spot they will be reliant on other teams’ not gaining many points.
