Liverpool is near certain to qualify for the Champions League next season after Arne Slot’s men beat Crystal Palace, even though there are still four games remaining

Liverpool now has an almost 97 per cent chance of making the Champions League places this season after Arne Slot’s men won 3-1 against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Opta gives Brighton less than a five per cent chance of overtaking the Reds and entering UEFA’s premier competition, with other clubs like Brentford and Chelsea even less likely than that at this late stage.
With games against Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford remaining, Liverpool still has tricky fixtures remaining. But it is now a maximum of two wins away from confirming a top-five finish, which will be enough to achieve its minimum aim.

Slot was pleased with his side getting the three points against Crystal Palace and offered a clear verdict at the final whistle.
“One that we haven’t had yet and that’s almost impossible because all the things we’ve experienced this season… you could write a book about it, as I said earlier,” he said.
“Every time I think now, OK, now there’s nothing that can happen anymore that didn’t happen yet. But we saw it today — a goalkeeper on the floor and then conceding a goal.

“The end result is, of course, positive that we were able [to win] in a game where we conceded a goal that you prefer not to concede — you never prefer to concede a goal — but not in this way.
“But we kept on fighting until the end and even scored for 3-1. So, [the] bad luck we’ve had many times this season, usually it ends up in us dropping points but not today.
“That’s a very positive thing. If you just look at the performance of both teams, I think Palace deserved to come back into the game because they were playing a good game, they were close to scoring goals, the margins were really small.”
On Saturday, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were both on the scoresheet for Liverpool. But it wasn’t all good news for the Reds as Mohamed Salah limped off with a muscle injury.

Slot was unable to predict how long Salah will be sidelined for, though it is possible that he has played his last game for Liverpool as a result of the problem that forced him off the field.
Egypt director Ibrahim Hassan has claimed Salah could be out for a month, which would put the rest of his Liverpool career in doubt, but not his participation in the summer’s World Cup.
Liverpool.com says: Getting back into the Champions League would mean the Reds being able to head into next season having hit the reset button.
This season has not gone to plan, but at least making the top five will mean the effects not being long-lasting. Get a couple of good signings in during the summer and Liverpool can get back on track again.
