Xavi Simons was caught in a verbal tirade with a Wolves fan as he was stretchered off in Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Molineux on Saturday.
The Dutchman sustained a serious knee injury as Spurs finally won a Premier League match in 2026 to breathe new life into their relegation battle.

Victory for Roberto De Zerbi’s men was marred by injuries in either half to Dominic Solanke and Simons.
The latter went down in a heap following a tussle with Hugo Bueno and had to be taken away on a stretcher for medical treatment.
However, Simons didn’t take kindly to the abuse thrown his way from a section of the home fans while he was clutching his knee in agony.

One supporter can be heard calling the 23-year-old a ‘f****** w*****’ as he was being carted down the touchline behind the Wolves goal.

Another fan even leaned over the railing to jab his finger at the stricken Simons and call him a ‘c***’, which provoked a reaction from the attacking midfielder.
The ex-RB Leipzig star responded by repeatedly saying “f*** you” to the supporter dressed in a black tee as medical staff wheeled him away.
Simons was replaced by Lucas Bergvall in the 63rd minute, with Spurs boss De Zerbi confirming he will be assessed in the next few days.

“I would like to know more about Xavi because you know the knee,” De Zerbi continued.
“He felt pain, but now I spoke with him, he feels better than when he got his injury.”
Tottenham’s win was also slightly soured by West Ham scoring a late winner in a 2-1 victory over Everton to ensure Spurs only climbed into 17th for a matter of minutes.
Simons’ injury looked serious and will immediately spark fears the Dutchman will miss the club’s crucial final four games as they fight to stay in the Premier League.
The Dutch star will soon undergo a proper assessment on his knee after swelling has gone down to determine the severity of any damage done.
On Inside Spurs for talkSPORT earlier in the week, Spurs broadcaster Ricky Sacks claimed the only way they can get out of their desperate situation is with Simons.

Solanke also picked up an injury earlier in the match and left the pitch with only 40 minutes played.
Speaking afterwards, boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “Solanke a muscular injury, Xavi it’s a problem with his knee.
“We go to see in the next few days. Solanke it’s not a big problem, I don’t know how many games we lose him.
“I would like to know more about Xavi though because you know the knee, it’s always different to the muscles.
“He felt pain but now I spoke with him and he feels better than the beginning when he got his injury.”
Spurs finally had something to cheer in the 82nd minute as Joao Palhinha poked in from close range to put them ahead.
That briefly sent them out of the bottom three on goal difference.
However, West Ham scored via Callum Wilson in the second minute of stoppage time to beat Everton and keep them out of the drop zone.
Antonin Kinsky pulled off a stunning save at the death to keep Spurs’ lead intact, and earn them their first win of the calendar year.
Relegation battle as it stands
With both Spurs and West Ham winning on Saturday, there is no change to who’s in and who’s out of the bottom relegation zone.
At one point, the Hammers had a four-point safety gap as they led Everton and Spurs were held by Wolves.
However, with four games remaining for each side, there are just two points separating the London rivals.
West Ham are away to Brentford next weekend before a tough test at home against title challengers Arsenal.
Their final away trip this season will be at Newcastle United, with Leeds United their opponents on the final day, May 24.

Tottenham are still in the relegation zone despite beating Wolves
For Spurs, it’s Aston Villa who welcome them next, and then it’s Leeds who travel to north London.
