Liverpool’s owner has taken the decision to fire the manager as well as five coaches at the Boston Red Sox, in news that might be of interest to Reds fans.

Many Liverpool supporters would have liked Fenway Sports Group to have acted more ruthlessly with Arne Slot earlier this season when the team was going through a torrid run of form.

Liverpool has had a disappointing season, and Slot has lost the support of a lot of fans – although the Reds are currently on a three-game winning run in the Premier League.

Slot is expected to lead Liverpool into the 2026-27 campaign, with FSG remaining unwavering in its support of the head coach that led the team to the Premier League title last season.

FSG accepts that there are extraordinary mitigating circumstances behind Liverpool’s difficult season, which began a matter of weeks after player Diogo Jota died in a car crash in Spain while journeying back to England for the start of pre-season.

While Slot is expected to continue in his post, that is not the case for Alex Cora, who was fired from his position as the manager of the FSG-owned Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

“Alex Cora led this organization to one of the greatest seasons in Red Sox history in 2018, and for that, and the many years that followed, he will always have our deepest gratitude,” owner John Henry said in a statement.

“He has had a lasting impact on this team and on this city. He has led on and off the field in so many important ways.”

Hitting coach Peter Fatse, third base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramon Vazquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, and major league hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin also departed alongside Cora.
