Head-to-head record

Previous meetings: 43

Brighton wins: 12

Draws: 10

Spurs wins: 21

Brighton & Hove Albion have only locked horns with Tottenham Hotspur on 43 occasions over the years, though the Lilywhites lead 21 to 12 in the head-to-head record, while the clubs have shared the spoils in a further 10 clashes since their maiden showdown in 1903.

However, the Seagulls are now consistent opponents for the Londoners given their status as Premier League regulars, and recent matches between the sides have often entertained – just two of the last 17 meetings have ended in a stalemate.

Spurs have emerged victorious from nine of those showdowns, albeit not in either game in 2024-25, when Ange Postecoglou’s men lost a 2-0 lead in a 3-2 away defeat before being thumped 4-1 at home on the final weekend.

The Lilywhites did come up trumps at home against a Roberto De Zerbi-less Brighton in February 2024, although they needed a last-gasp Brennan Johnson goal in that hard-fought 2-1 victory.

A matter of weeks beforehand, Brighton conquered Postecoglou’s team at the Amex in a 4-2 thriller, where the Seagulls stormed into a 4-0 lead against the lacklustre Lilywhites before Alejo Veliz and Ben Davies made the scoreline slightly more respectable.

The most recent contest between Spurs and Brighton saw De Zerbi at the helm for the relegation-threatened Londoners in April 2026, though his first home game with the club ended in disappointment when Georginio Rutter’s 95th-minute equaliser for the Seagulls kept Tottenham in the bottom three after a 2-2 draw.

Action at the top end of the pitch is usually a guarantee when these two sides meet, with only one goalless draw arising from their 43 battles so far – a 1977 Division Two clash at White Hart Lane.

Speaking of goals, Harry Kane found the back of the net 10 times in this fixture for Tottenham – by far and away the most of any player – while another ex-Spurs forward in Garth Crooks is second on the list with three.
