Manchester United have added Atalanta midfielder Ederson to their list of summer transfer targets, talkSPORT understands.

The Red Devils are looking to sign two midfielders this summer, with veteran star Casemiro set to depart in the summer and Manuel Ugarte expected to be sold.

Atalanta value Ederson at around £42million, and United may well have a battle on their hands if they are to secure his services.

The Brazilian has already agreed terms to join Atletico Madrid in the summer.

However, the Spanish giants are yet to reach an agreement with Atalanta over a fee, leaving it open to a potential hijack.

Ederson is out of contract at Atalanta in 2027, having been at the Serie A outfit since 2022.

According to reports, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is an admirer of Ederson and is monitoring his progress after drawing up a list of potential replacements for Casemiro.

United plot midfield summer spree

talkSPORT recently reported that the Red Devils view adding multiple midfielders as their top priority this summer.

As well as looking to replace Casemiro, a second more versatile central midfielder is also likely to arrive.

This move comes as United look look set to offload £51million signing Ugarte, who has started just eight games all season.

The Uruguayan has so far failed to up to his price tag since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.

And while United have now made Ederson a target, he isn’t the only midfielder who they are keeping tabs on.

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is also one of the names on the club’s radar, with Los Blancos looking to raise funds for a midfield revamp in the summer which could prompt the Frenchman’s sale.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson remains United’s top target, but United face heavy competition from Manchester City.

Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali is also appreciated but viewed as too expensive when fee, wage and commissions are factored in.

Brighton star Carlos Baleba may remain keen on an Old Trafford switch following United’s approach last summer, while Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has admirers at the club but is viewed as similiar in profile to Kobbie Mainoo, who recently penned a new deal.

Who is Ederson?

Ederson joined Atalanta in January 2022 from Italian side Salernitana, having played for Cruzeiro, Corinthians, and Fortaleza.

Since making the move to Bergamo, he has established himself a key player in a hugely successful period for the club.

The 26-year-old has made 176 appearances in all competitions, and was part of the Atalanta side that won its first-ever European trophy with Europa League glory in 2024.

His exploits that season led to interest from Tottenham and Newcastle, but a move never materialised.

Since then, he has continued to be an ever-present in midfield for the Serie A side, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring twice as Atalanta sit seventh in the table, four points off Como, who occupy the last European place.

Ederson’s strong showings for Atalanta have also led to international recognition, as he made his Brazil debut in a friendly against Mexico in June 2024.

He has since gone on to win three caps, the last of which came in a 4-1 loss to Argentina in March 2025.
