While Newcastle United have had two big players ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal, the Gunners have had slightly better injury news.

Saturday’s game at the Emirates is huge for both clubs. Arsenal have fallen away in the title race, and Manchester City are now breathing down their necks.

Meanwhile, Newcastle don’t really have anything to play for but pride at this point. Our pride is shattered, and a win against a title contender would go a long way towards healing it.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, they are likely to be missing several big players for Saturday’s clash as Tino Livramento and Joelinton are ruled out through injury and suspension, respectively, and Anthony Gordon is a major doubt too.

Arsenal have two defenders close to a return

Arsenal have had slightly better news on the injury front as defender Jurrien Timber is closing in on a return to action after six games out with a groin issue.

According to the Daily Cannon, however, it’s more likely that the Dutchman may be held back to make his return against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.

Former Newcastle target Riccardo Calafiori is in a similar position in that he’s close to a return, but Newcastle may come a tad too soon for the Italian.

Martin Odegaard made his return to action at the weekend, so he is likely to be involved on Saturday, which isn’t ideal for the Magpies.

We’re praying to the Football Gods

As much as we don’t like to revel in the misfortune of others (unless it’s Alexander Isak), we could really do with Arsenal keeping Timber and Calafiori on the sidelines for another game.

Given where Newcastle’s confidence is right now, we need every strand of help going and if that means Arsenal not being at full strength, then so be it.

We’re not expecting anything out of Saturday’s game, but let’s be honest, there would be nothing more Newcastle United than turning up and grabbing a win where we’re not expected to.

Plus, it’s that time of the season where Arsenal like to hand out gifts, so let’s hope they’re feeling generous on Saturday.
