Wolverhampton Wanderers became the first club to be relegated from the Premier League this season.
Wolves’ Championship confirmation took place after 17th placed West Ham United secured a point against Crystal Palace on Monday.
The Hammers are now 16 points ahead of the Molineux club with five more matches to go.
Rob Edwards’ side would be looking to reshape their squad in the summer and as part of that, some of players will leave and new faces will arrive at the club. Angel Gomes fits into both categories as he could leave or join them permanently.
The former Manchester United man returned to the Premier League when Wolves signed him on loan from Marseille in the winter market.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from France that the English club cover his €400k per month salary.
Uncertain future at Wolves
La Provence, a newspaper local to the Ligue 1 side, now looks at Angel Gomes’ chances of staying at Wolves.
The attacking midfielder failed to shine on his return to England as he didn’t find the back of net or contributed an assist.
His Premier League stats for Wolves are as follows:
Appearances: 9
Starts: 6
Total minutes: 401
Minutes per game: 45
Expected Goals: 0.21
Expected Assists: 0.24
Big chances created: 0
Big chances missed: 0
These numbers indicate the 26-year-old’s lack of impact during his loan spell so far and it could impact his Wolves future.
The English club have an option to buy him for €7m. After their drop to the Championship was confirmed, the chances of Wolves activating the clause is ‘extremely slim, if not negligible’.
In other words, he will likely return to Marseille after this season. His future there also seems uncertain, and the Ligue 1 side must make a decision on where Gomes will play next season.
Contract, value and agent info
Angel Gomes has over two years left on his contract at Marseille and is valued at €12m by Transfermarkt.
Agency Roof are representing the Wolves player and would have to look for a solution in the next window.
