Manchester United are reportedly cooling their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with their attentions instead turning to other targets. United are one of the clubs to be linked with a move for the Italian in the upcoming transfer window.
The club’s summer focus is expected to be on strengthening their midfield options. Casemiro is expected to leave the club on the expiry of his contract, while there is uncertainty over the future of Manuel Ugarte.
Despite this, The Telegraph reports that United’s chances of completing a move for Tonali are ‘receding’ with the club looking at other options. One of those is said to be Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 26-year-old is expected to star for France at this summer’s World Cup. A potential move could hinge on Real’s interest in Man City star Rodri.
The Spanish giants are not likely to let Tchouameni leave without first bringing in a replacement. Club president Florentino Perez is known to be a big admirer of Rodri, who is out of contract with City next season.
With United seemingly looking away from Tonali, it could open the door for the likes of Arsenal and Juventus, who have been linked with a moe.
He is contracted to Newcastle until 2028, with ChronicleLive reporting that the club are ‘comfortable’ with the player’s transfer status.

Speaking about the speculation over his future, Tonali told Sky Sports: “In football if you play well you have to deal with the transfer rumours, but if you concentrate 100% on your game, and you’re happy, you don’t have to think about anything or speak about anything.”
He added: “I don’t look at social media, I don’t like it. After my (gambling) ban, I changed everything with social media, I just go to training and then go home and be with my family.
“My life is much better now.”
The 25-year-old has played 49 times in all competitions so far this season, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
