Four of England’s biggest clubs, Liverpool, Everton, West Ham United, and Manchester United, are currently tracking FC Midtjylland striker Franculino Djú. With Real Betis, Bayern Munich, and AS Roma also joining the chase, the move is shaping up to be one of the summer window’s most competitive sagas.
Several Premier League sides are chasing Franculino Djú this summer
The 22-year-old Guinea-Bissau international grabbed the attention of Premier League scouts after a sensational domestic run, where he netted 17 goals and provided three assists in just 19 Superliga starts. Before an injury in December slowed him down, he had bagged 22 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions. Averaging a goal nearly every hour across his 1,273 minutes of league play, he’s putting up numbers that few other forwards in Europe’s secondary leagues can touch at the moment.
How does the injury affect his potential move?
His four-month stint on the sidelines has added a bit of uncertainty that interested clubs are now weighing up. Djú got back on the pitch earlier this month and scored in Midtjylland’s 2-1 win over Brøndby IF, showing signs that he’s found his feet again. However, Premier League scouts will likely want to see a few more solid games before their clubs meet the €25 million price tag set by Midtjylland sporting director Kristian Bach Bak.
Bak has admitted as much, stating the club will keep an eye on how Djú finishes the season before making a final call. Transfermarkt currently lists the striker at €22 million, meaning the Danish club are asking for a bit more than his current market value, though that price will likely climb if he stays in form.
The involvement of the agency All Iron Sports, headed by Spanish agent Borja García-Fuster, adds an interesting chapter to the talks. Agencies like his usually prefer to steer players toward projects that guarantee first-team minutes and a clear growth plan. This could give Liverpool or West Ham a slight edge over Manchester United and Everton, where the attacking rotations are already quite crowded.
Real Betis are only likely to make a move if Manuel Pellegrini’s side clinch a spot in European competition; they currently sit fifth in La Liga. While their interest is real, it’s mostly conditional, making them more of a dark horse than a frontrunner.
Realistically, Liverpool seems like the most likely destination. They have a deep scouting network in Scandinavia, a genuine need for more depth up front, and a history of successfully bringing Superliga talent into the Premier League. Djú scoring on his return at Brøndby Stadium was exactly what those watching clubs wanted to see, and the timing couldn’t have been better.
