Two men have been left injured, one with potentially life-changing injuries, after a brawl broke out among a large group of people in Leicester city centre in the early hours.
One man was found injured on the ground in Hotel Street when officers arrived at the scene.
Police were notified of the fight at 2.18am today (Sunday, April 19), with reports of a large group of people gathered in the street.
Officers attended and the injured man was taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
He remains in hospital receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening but “may be life-changing”, a force spokesperson said.
Following enquiries, police established that a second man had also been assaulted as part of the same incident.
The second man reported that his phone and jacket had been stolen during the brawl. His injuries are described as not life-threatening or life-changing.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody, officers confirmed.
A cordon was put in place in Hotel Street to allow enquiries to be carried out at the scene, though this has since been lifted, police added.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the circumstances surrounding it to come forward.
