It’s the second time the 39-year-old has lost his job this season, after being axed by fellow Isthmian Premier side Welling last October.

Martin returned to the Rams as boss in November and successfully steered them away from relegation trouble and into play-off contention.

He also led the Kent side to their first League Cup final since 2008, although it ended in disappointment as Ramsgate suffered a 1-0 extra-time defeat by Wingate & Finchley.

However, that hasn’t been enough for him to keep his job and was relived of his duties from his role at the Southwood Stadium.

Club Statement – Thank you Lee Martin

Ramsgate FC will begin the process of appointing a new first team manager following the departure of Lee Martin.

As we reflect on the season, it feels the right time to provide an update on the managerial position.

In a statement, the Rams acknowledged that Martin achieved what he was asked to do by avoiding the drop, but cited that the playing budget had been “significantly underspent” during a difficult recruitment period in the final weeks of the campaign.

Martin started his career with Manchester United, making three first-team appearances, but spent most of his time away form Old Trafford on loan at multiple clubs.

He was signed by Roy Keane at Town for £1.5m in summer of 2009, where he made 105 appearances for the Blues, scoring six goals during his spell at Portman Road.

After leaving Town in 2013, he played for the likes of Millwall, Northampton (loan), Gillingham, Exeter City, Ebbsfleet United, Dover Athletic and Ashford.
