Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards said Leeds United were better in the big moments but feels his side’s 3-0 defeat at Elland Road was not justified.
Edwards had a real problem with Leeds’ third goal, accusing Dominic Calvert-Lewin of buying the penalty which ended his goal drought, while he wasn’t too happy with his own players after a quick-fire double in the first half from James Justin and Noah Okafor put the hosts in control.
Leeds are now looking almost safe with games running our for the chasing pack, while Wolves could well be relegated this weekend.
“The result doesn’t look good,” said Edwards after the match. “There’s one minute where two goals have gone in, they were better in the big moments Leeds.
“It’s not a penalty, Calvert-Lewin has been clever and good and kicked the back of Hugo’s leg and gone down. I don’t know how VAR has not overturned it.
“Darlow has had to make a big save, we’ve had a huge chance. The overall performance was not terrible but the scoreline looks bad. We’ve got to take some momentum forward.”
The result didn’t sit too well with Wolves fans, who voiced their frustrations during the game and at the full-time whistle, which Edwards acknowledges he understands.
He added; “Completely understand the frustration and accept it, the fans should be angry. I’ll never say anything other than that, they have the right to vent and show their anger. No problem with me, I’m as angry as they are.
“It’s been a long time coming, our situation has been difficult this season and even seasons before. All I can do is promise we’re working extremely hard.
“It’s apt we’re here at Leeds, they’ve been through their difficulties as well and fairly recently. But you can see the way they’ve responded, everyone right behind it, in a cup semi-final as well. So it can be done.”
