Taylor got goal-side of Canaries midfielder Anis Ben Slimane in the box as he sought to clear the ball from a set-piece, with referee Anthony Backhouse awarding a penalty after a lengthy pause.

Replays show there was little contact between the pair, but Jaden Philogene converted the spot kick to set Ipswich on their way for a first win at Carrow Road in 20 years.

Clement felt Taylor had ‘tried to cheat‘ by going down despite little contact, a suggestion the Town midfielder has rejected as he spoke to the media on Friday.

“Well I definitely didn’t cheat,” he told TWTD. “That would be my first response to it. I felt contact, I watched it back and the video didn’t look as clear as it was.

“From a different angle, you’d probably get a better solution. I’ve gone on the blind side of him and he’s kicked my foot. If it happened to our players, that would be sloppy defending in my opinion.”

Clement and the club sought answers from the official refereeing bodies after the fixture which also saw the Canaries boss issued a third yellow card of the season for failing to control his bench. That means he will sit out of their trip to Bristol City this afternoon.

Backhouse, who also failed to dismiss Marcelino Nunez during the encounter, stood down to fourth official duty for two fixtures after his performance at Carrow Road.

Clement felt those conversations with the authorities had been beneficial as he seeks to move on from the situation.

“We had a good meeting with the head of the referee department, and in general, everybody agrees about what happened in the game, and that’s done,” said Clement. “So I don’t want to put any attention any more to that. I think that’s been done after the game.

“I’ve been clear also how I saw things, and I always will be honest about that also, and now it’s done, and it’s about looking forward.

“Never had a ban before in my coaching career. It’s so frustrating, also because of the circumstance. But I want to leave it behind me.

“You need, sometimes, to deal with everything in life. It’s not what I wanted, it’s not deserved, but it is what it is, and I cannot change it.

“Now we must control the controllables, and get the best out of the game and do my job the best as possible. It’s frustrating that I cannot do it like I want to do it, but I will adapt.”
