The loss raises the stakes ahead of United’s visit to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea. A win keeps us firmly in control of Champions League qualification – while a loss will throw the race wide open.
The manner of United’s performance against Leeds was concerning, for the first hour at least. The Michael Carrick train no longer looks unstoppable.
United have won only one of the last four games, a run that includes two defeats.
And now there is speculation regarding Julian Nagelsmann and even Andoni Iraola emerging as contenders for the job.

One user on TalkingPoints posted after the Leeds defeat that while the interim boss has done well to get United into third position, ‘it’s the right decision to part ways with Carrick in the summer’.
He argues: “Tactically we’ve been poor for a while now, and have rode our luck, relying on individual brilliance.”
This has sparked an interesting debate, with a wide range of views about Carrick’s future.
One fan writes confidently: “Yes he is the right man,” and points out that Carrick is well positioned to handle the unique challenges the United job brings.
He adds that with the right players signed, United can win the league next season.
Another fan also backs Carrick, choosing to look at the last 30 minutes of the Leeds game, “I could see the fierce fight of the players when they were one man down.
“They reminded me of the Fergie time.”
Another comment looked at the alternate options, suggesting Carrick is ‘ahead’ of Iraola and Glasner in the pecking order, but listing Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann as both preferable.
One fan responded by dismissing Julian Nagelsmann as another Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, who could struggle to adapt to English football.
He also argued that Nagelsmann’s record at Bayern Munich was uninspiring, and dismissing Enrique as a feasible option.
He added that if given the chance to sign his own players, Carrick could build on what he has started.
Another comment was less complimentary about the current Manchester United boss, arguing that after the wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, the results have been ‘lucky’.
“We should be getting a better manager and players if we want to compete for trophies,” he adds.
Another fan expressed that he was beginning to ahv doubts over Michael Carrick after seeing a dip in performances, and some questionable selection decisions.
“I fully believed Michael Carrick was the man, but I am wondering now.”
Another fan made his feelings clear by simply stating: “I believe in him.”
