The Premier League goalscorer has been tipped to succeed Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah by two club legends
West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen has been talked up by two Liverpool legends
Liverpool have been urged to strike a deal for West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen as a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Iconic winger Salah stunned the footballing world last month when he announced he would be leaving at the end of the season after a trophy-laden spell at Anfield.
Finding someone to fill the Egyptian hero’s boots will be no easy feat. Yet former Red, John Aldridge, who scored 64 goals in 104 appearances for the club, believes the Irons hitman has what it takes to succeed Salah. Arne Slot’s chances of landing the player could also be heightened if West Ham go down this season.
The Liverpool legend’s comments echo those of ex-boss Jurgen Klopp, who also reserved praise for Bowen, 29. Speaking to Boyle Sports, Aldridge said: “I’ve looked at Jarrod Bowen for some years now, and I really like the way he plays football, and what he offers West Ham.
“I joined Liverpool when I was 28 or 29. There are a good couple of years left in him. I’ve been saying this to a lot of ex-players for a couple of years now. He would fit the bill whenever Mo was ready to go, and even now, you still get a couple of good years at least out of him.

“If West Ham stay up, then it would be hard to get him, and he’s probably not what the owners look at, age-wise. But again, I’m a bit of a dinosaur, so why not?
“For what’s out there, if, hypothetically, we were to get him, he could get you 15 goals a season and a lot of assists. But it might not fit the makeup of the club, sadly.

“Jarrod Bowen is a more solid option than [RB Leipzig star] Yan Diomande because he’s used to the Premier League, he’s used to British life. He’s a lot older. A young lad coming in, it’s tough, especially at that age.
“For someone to take over from Mohamed Salah. It’s got to be someone solid, someone who’s done it. Ticks all the boxes, has experience. Someone with pace, we need pace. Mo has lost a bit of pace, we need that up top. That is the criteria.”

Liverpool’s former German coach was never shy about voicing his appreciation for the Hammers’ talisman. Before a Carabao Cup encounter between the two sides in December 2023, Klopp branded Bowen as “probably my favourite player besides my players”, before adding: “It’s just great what he’s doing and how he develops.”
The comments came after the former Reds boss had sung the goalscorer’s praises back in November 2021. He said: “I like Bowen a lot. He made his way up from Hull and took not too long to get there, to show exactly what kind of player he can be in the Premier League as well.”
Months later, Klopp said: “Bowen, what a player he became, unbelievable. We saw him at Hull as well, and he was really good that time, but I’m not sure many people expected this jump. Unbelievable player.”

The Hammers snapped up Bowen from Hull City on transfer deadline day in January 2020, and he’s been a key figure ever since, netting 84 goals in 274 games.
The England international’s deal at the London Stadium runs until June 2030, meaning Liverpool would likely pay a hefty transfer fee if they were to follow Aldridge and Klopp’s recommendations.
However, if the irons were to be relegated this season, the Reds and several other Premier League clubs would no doubt be eyeing a cut-price deal for Bowen.
