Liverpool are reportedly moving ahead with plans to sign Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace this summer.

The Reds are in need of bolstering their midfield after seeing an inexplicable drop-off during the current season.

Having emerged as one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League, Wharton has long been of interest to Liverpool, and according to both TeamTALK and TalkSPORT, the Reds think he could be the answer to their problems.

Liverpool clearly need to do some reconstruction on their midfield this summer, and Wharton is said to have emerged as the ideal choice.

According to TeamTALK, the Reds have been doing ‘significant groundwork’ on the 22-year-old in order to get ahead of Man United, Real Madrid and PSG.

Wharton is reportedly viewed by Liverpool’s recruitment team as being the player who can anchor their midfield for ‘years to come.’

As a result, the Reds are reportedly stepping up their interest, and though Palace are said to be keen to keep Wharton, it is expected that a fee of around £70m could be enough to tempt them into a sale.

The player himself is claimed to be interested in a return to the North West, which could potentially pit Liverpool directly against Man United.

Meanwhile, Wharton’s potential arrival could spell trouble for Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, both of whom could reportedly be sold this summer.

Wharton expected to leave Crystal Palace

Interestingly, TalkSPORT also carry a report about Liverpool’s interest in Wharton on Friday, insisting that the Reds will be right in the mix for the expected transfer battle this summer.

They suggest that while it may take closer to £80m to convince Palace of a sale, the England international is ‘expected’ to leave Selhurst Park.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Mac Allister and Jones are both mentioned as being under threat once again, with Wharton likely to snatch the Argentine’s starting spot.

United appear to be heavily involved, and there is seemingly plenty that could yet happen before the transfer window opens.

Other clubs may yet come into the fray for a player who Declan Rice deemed to be ‘outstanding‘ after watching him in training with England.

Wherever he ends up this summer, Liverpool will seemingly give it their best shot to bring Wharton to Anfield.
