Manchester United legend Roy Keane believes sacking Arne Slot after he won the Premier League title in his first season as manager would be a mistake.

Liverpool have suffered a torrid 2025-26 season across all competitions, with an astonishing 18 defeats since the campaign’s beginning.

During his final year at the club, Klopp bowed out with the second Carabao Cup trophy of his Liverpool career while fielding a squad of largely youth players against final opponents Chelsea.

That was in the 2023-24 season, where the German managed the Reds to a third-placed finish with 82 points, scoring 86 goals and conceding 41 across the Premier League season.

In Arne Slot’s title win, the Dutchman led Liverpool to 84 points… also scoring 86 goals and conceding 41 in the process.

Roy Keane, whose Champions League showing against Juventus in 1999 ranked at No.3 in FourFourTwo’s list of the best individual performances ever, believes Liverpool could be swayed by ‘restless [fans]’ to sack Arne Slot.

‘You can’t be sacking the manager a year after winning the league’, said the Irishman on the Stick to Football podcast.

He continued: ‘[The fans are] restless… but aren’t most fans? It’s about how they finish the season. They’ve got Manchester United in a few weeks… big games emotionally, for the fans. But I think they’ll be fine for Top 5.’

Liverpool, currently placed fifth in the Premier League table on 52 points, are separated from 10th position by just six points.

With a fifth-placed finish enough to guarantee Champions League qualification, Liverpool will fight for their spot against an Everton side just five points behind them in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
