David Ornstein has shared an update on Manchester United‘s managerial search, revealing the latest on Michael Carrick, Luis Enrique and Andoni Iraola.

Ornstein shares update on Man Utd manager search

The Red Devils have a major decision to make at the end of the season as they look to make up for the failure that was Ruben Amorim’s appointment, though that will be easier said than done.

Several names have already put themselves in the frame for the job, too. Both Iraola and Oliver Glasner have confirmed their forthcoming departures from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, sparking rumours that they could make the final shortlist at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano has also revealed this weeek that Iraola in particular is “for sure” open to a move to United.

Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that Man United are keen on Enrique, as his Paris Saint-Germain future continues to steal the headlines. As things stand, the Spaniard’s current deal in France is set to expire in 2027. Ornstein, however, believes that he will stay put in Paris.

It’s an early blow for Man United, who would have Enrique as their leading candidate in an ideal world.

The PSG boss, currently a European champion, is as close as anyone will get to Pep Guardiola, but it looks unlikely that he’ll be on his way to Old Trafford anytime soon.

Carrick in “pole position” for Man Utd job

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick celebrates after the match

Speaking in a question and answer session with The Athletic, Ornstein confirmed that Carrick is in “pole position” to land the Man United job this summer, despite recent results.

“I don’t see United picking the likes of Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner or Marco Silva ahead of Carrick — although if they miss out on the Champions League, I assume they would all come into play. That’s why we’ll have to be a bit patient.

“I hear United have completed all of their background work and no doubt spoken to representatives, although I’m told no interviews with candidates have taken place yet; if they had, we would probably have heard whispers at the very least.

“As things stand, it might feel like Carrick is in pole position.”

On the hunt for their next manager, INEOS have turned their focus towards a European champion for Manchester United.

It’s a major boost for Carrick, who initially got off to a flying start as interim boss before some believed that recent results dampened his chances of stepping into the role on a permanent basis.

Alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case as of yet. His 4-2-3-1 system has prioritised entertainment and certainly won a lot of fans at Old Trafford and, even after Monday’s defeat against Leeds United, it’s worth noting that he’s won seven of his 11 games in charge.
