Charles Street, in the heart of Leicester city centre, is closed this morning, following a “police incident”.

An investigation is continuing after a man was stabbed in Charles Street in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 16 April) – and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Shortly after 3.30am, a third party reported that a man had been stabbed. Officers attended with colleagues from the East Midlands Ambulance Service and found a man in his 20s near the junction with Yeoman Lane.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A search of the area was undertaken by the attending officers but no arrests have been made.

A scene preservation and road remain in place at this time.

Sergeant Steph Burnham, from the Central Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) said: “It was reported a group of men were seen running off towards Lee Circle, St James Street and Hill Street.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who was in or close to Charles Street in the early hours of this morning. We are keen to speak to anyone with a dashcam in their vehicle and residents or business owners who have a camera on the outside of their property.

“Any information or footage you’re able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could help.”
