Liverpool are expected to add to their squad in the summer transfer window, with some big names leaving the club
Liverpool are in the market for a Mohamed Salah replacement this summer.
Liverpool are reportedly ‘putting the feelers out’ for a new midfielder this summer as Arne Slot looks to reinforce his squad following a disappointing campaign. The Reds are also in the market for a Mohamed Salah replacement, with the Egyptian leaving the club at the end of the season.
The Reds’ transfer plans could spell bad news for Manchester United, who are also on the hunt for midfielders. Several of United’s top targets have also been linked with Liverpool previously, including Adam Wharton.
Liverpool are expected for another busy summer as they try to right the wrongs from this season. Slot’s side romped to the Premier League title last season and had been the favourites to retain their crown, but have been a far cry away from their imperious best.
They find themselves battling it out for a spot in the Champions League next season, and are 18 points behind Arsenal at the top of the table. That is despite Liverpool spending a whopping £446m in the summer, the most spent by a Premier League club in a single window.
Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike topped the bill, but all three have struggled throughout the campaign. The Reds know they need a winger to replace Salah after his departure from Anfield was announced last month.

However, reports from the Daily Mail claim the Reds are looking to add more mobility to their midfield, adding energy and athleticism this summer. It highlights Alexis Mac Allister’s drop in form, and there are question marks around his future.
If Liverpool are to go into the market for a midfielder, they’ll face direct competition from Manchester United, who are expected to sign a replacement for Casemiro.
Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Wharton and Sandro Tonali are among the stars linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Italian tentatively linked with Anfield in recent weeks.

Reds boss, Slot, has already admitted that Liverpool are in a transitional period as a club and that certain players are coming towards the end of their cycle with the club.
Slot said: “We are a club in transition. A club always has certain cycles with certain players. A lot of them that were so successful for the club have already left or are leaving.
“As I said many times, the future looks very good, especially if we can sign players after good players leaving this summer.
“Unfortunately, that also happens with free transfers, that will happen with Mo, that will happen with Robbo, and that has happened already with Trent… as you know, the club that we are, we need to recoup our money and to spend again.
“That is the challenge that we had last season, we had to sell 10-11 players to sign five to six. That’s going to be another challenge this summer, because we do have to replace the ones who are leaving.
“But this club have shown so many times that this model works and with this model we can be successful, and I am also proud to work for this club and work our model.”
