Aston Villa believe they will comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations for this season.
The club earlier this month published accounts which revealed a profit after tax of £17 million, boosted by the sale of the women’s team and The Warehouse.
Those accounts made reference to the impact on revenues of being involved in the Champions League and turnover which had grown by more than £100m to £378m.
But for all the numbers have become bigger, the responsibility for making sure Villa don’t exceed the league’s allowable Financial Fair Play losses of £105m over a three year period remains acute.
Villa’s directors have made it clear they believe they have done that up to June 2025, noting as much in the accounts – which were posted on Companies House.
It says: “The Board is focused on providing necessary investment in the playing squad, operational functions and infrastructure of the Club whilst recognising that it must remain compliant with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
“The Club reviews compliance with these regulations when setting budgets, throughout the year, and, in particular, in all relevant situations where a decision may be taken that would have a material impact on compliance.
“Management will continue to review and monitor forecasts and the directors believe they will remain compliant for the 2025/26 season.”
Interestingly the importance of the backing Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris is not shied away from – albeit the board claim progress in Europe is helping – as is the rise in value of their squad.
Players like Morgan Rogers, Boubacar Kamara and Ezri Konsa have thrived under Unai Emery and will be worth far in advance of what Villa paid for them.
The accounts note: “The Club is also aware of risks associated with the reliance upon shareholders to fund operations.
“However, the directors are confident that this risk is mitigated by recent positive upsides to the business, such as retained Premier League membership, continued qualification for a UEFA competition in the 2025/26 season and the significant realisable market value of the playing squad.”
