After 20 years of hurt, the curse has finally been broken, and the hoodoo that Norwich City have had over Ipswich Town has ended.
There is simply nothing now that they have over us – the pathetic little run is over.
The previous two decades have been tough, especially in the fixture. But just like London buses, you wait for one win to come along then you get two in one season, and wasn’t it marvellous?!
Suffolk News’ Ipswich Town columnist Joey Sadler
I truly believe that going unbeaten against Ipswich for 16 years is the greatest achievement in the history of Norwich. When it comes to The Canaries, it’s always about Ipswich, so the fact that their precious little record has ended is truly wonderful.
Town were the better team on Saturday, as they were back in October, too. I felt nervous going into it, but after 45 minutes there was a sense of calm and confidence that we were going to get the job done, and didn’t we do just that.
Kieran McKenna mentioned how we adapted our style for this game, and that was clear to see.
Right, I guess now I better touch on that pretty poor showing on Tuesday night away at Portsmouth.
At third attempt to play this fixture, Town themselves were the ones who didn’t turn up to play at Fratton Park.
We were poor and looked like we had a major hangover from Saturday lunchtime. I can kind of understand that, but I do think the changes McKenna made did not work and none of those who were given a chance to start did themselves any favours.
That’s one lifeline used up. I’m not sure we’ll have another and what could’ve been a comfortable five-point gap stays at two, which means it can still swing either way.
We now look ahead to a huge game on Sunday. Town HAVE to show up for that one. Not only is it a chance to keep ourselves firmly in the driving seat, but I think a victory pretty much rules Middlesbrough out the automatic promotion race, too.
Come on Town, keep pushing.
