Wes Brown has now dropped his honest assessment of Manchester United’s performance against Leeds United and Lisandro Martinez’s controversial red card.

Lisandro Martinez was reinstated to the Manchester United starting XI after his return from injury and amid the absence of Harry Maguire due to suspension.

The 28-year-old Argentine star was relatively solid for Man Utd against Leeds United before Martinez was controversially sent off at Old Trafford in the second half.

Martinez had been deemed to have pulled on the hair of Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the 2022 World Cup winner received a straight red card.

VAR had intervened in Monday evening’s 2-1 defeat and Premier League referee Paul Tierney reviewed the Lisandro Martinez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin incident again.

Paul Tierney sided with the VAR decision and Manchester United were reduced to 10 men against Leeds United after Martinez was dismissed from the Old Trafford pitch.

United were trailing 2-0 at the time of the red card, but the Red Devils fought back in the second half and pulled one back through a stunning Casemiro header.

Speaking on Man Utd’s official podcast, Wes Brown felt that there was a night-and-day difference between the Red Devils’ first-half and second-half performances.

“But that whole game, what you talk about in the end was the red card, unfortunately,” he said on Inside Carrington.

“It’s not a red card for me, simple as that. It was a poor first half for us and I thought the second half with 10 men, we [were] excellent.

“You know, we should have at least drawn the game.”

Bruno Fernandes picked up another Premier League assist after Casemiro expertly converted for the Red Devils in the encounter with Leeds at Old Trafford.

Casemiro came close to netting a brace of headers in Monday evening’s clash, but the Man Utd midfielder was denied by a superb clearance from Calvert-Lewin.

United could potentially explore an appeal over Martinez’s sending off, with the former Ajax star now banned for the next three Premier League matches.

The Red Devils will now head to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening and Man Utd face a tough Premier League test against top-four-chasing Chelsea.
