Saints had the game sewn up by half-time with goals from Cyle Larin and Ryan Manning. Rovers were dominated in the first half and though they were more competitive after the restart, the contest was all but over.
Eckert reiterated the difficulty of opening up a side sat back to defend, as he felt Rovers were. He insisted there was no complacency in the club despite their unstoppable form.
“It’s always a test. You can never go into a game thinking that it just falls for you. Not in any competition anywhere. You need to grab every game,” he said.
“There are many teams that don’t want to play at the very moment, but that doesn’t mean that the game just falls for you. You need to earn that.
“I think you need to start these games strong. When teams come here, don’t even open up a little bit to give them hope to take something away.
“I think today it was quite clear the way that they set up. They’ve been quite consistent, so you more or less play man-to-man in that very first bit.
“Then it depends a lot on the energy, especially in the first line, so we knew that we needed some fresh legs, especially in the press.
“You need to deserve that, and I think we did that over 90 minutes today.”
