First up is Southampton, who have won six successive games to climb into the play-off places after an impressive turnaround under Tonda Eckert.

The fixture list has not been kind to Rovers, who host leaders Coventry City on Friday night after the long trip to St Mary’s.

The squad is also dealing with injuries, but Forshaw believes they can take encouragement from previous performances against the top sides.

“We’ve proven lately that we can definitely get results in any fixture, wherever we go,” he said.

“I remember a couple of years ago now, I was on the other side of it. I was with Plymouth trying to stay in the division and I remember Blackburn went to Leeds.

“Leeds had been unbeaten in however many games. I was thinking as a Plymouth player, how have they gone and got a result? I think Sammie Szmodics scored the winner.

“Southampton are in brilliant form, probably at the moment the best team in the league, I’d say. It’s going to be tough, but we’ve shown that we can be resolute and tough to beat.”

Forshaw’s stunner at Stoke City secured another valuable point on Saturday as Rovers battle to finish above the dotted line.

“I think it was probably a good point in the context of our performance,” he reflected. “It wasn’t our best one recently, if we’re being totally honest. We probably didn’t deserve to win the game, so in that sense I think we’ll take the point.

“At the end of the day, it’s a tough place to go. It was blowing a gale! Although I’d have liked it to have been the winner for us, it wasn’t.”

Rovers are now unbeaten in their last five games in the Championship and have kept clean sheets in three of those.

When asked about that positive trend, the midfielder replied: “Yes, and we’re not conceding loads either. I think we’re quite resolute as a group.

“We’ve kept a few clean sheets recently as well. If we are conceding, we’re not conceding many, which is great.

“We just need to try and be a little bit more ruthless or clinical on the other end and I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
