I tried a Crystal Palace bakery where queues form when it opens and which has won numerous awards.
Chatsworth Bakehouse in Anerley Road first opened in 2020, during the Covid‑19 pandemic, after the founder began making bakes in their flat.
The bakery became a viral hit on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, and has since taken home many awards and accolades, including being named in the 2026 Good Food Guide.
Some of the bakery’s items include its cereal cookie, cinnamon bun, Guinness cake and malted milk maritozzi.

While there was a queue, the crowd the bakery draws is a mix of curious foodies and loyal locals, who often end up chatting while they wait.
Prices range between £4 and £6, making it not the cheapest place to pick up a pastry, but definitely a treat experience if you’re looking for something special during a visit to the area.
After a lot of deliberation and some suggestions from fellow customers, I opted to try four items.

Among them was the cereal cookie. I really enjoyed its crunchiness and that it wasn’t overly sweet compared to some cookies I’ve tried.
My personal favourite, however, had to be the cinnamon bun. It was huge and could easily serve two people, with a really gooey cinnamon centre and sweet cream cheese icing on top. It wasn’t hard or crusty on the outside and had all the makings of a great cinnamon bun.
Another item I tried was the Guinness cake, made with blackberries and Guinness. While the Guinness flavour wasn’t overpowering, you could definitely taste it coming through.
It wasn’t my favourite of everything I tried, but I could certainly appreciate the flavour profile.
Finally, I also tried the malted milk maritozzi — which was another personal highlight.
The portion size was very generous and the flavours were mildly sweet without being overpowering.
Talking to staff, it’s clear that a lot of passion goes into the business, with some team members having worked there since it opened in 2020.
