Swansea battled hard at times with Leicester on top in the first-half but made the Foxes pay for their lack of prolificacy in front of goal with the Slovenian scoring a goal of the highest standard.
Vipotnik’s clinical finish, after Ji-Sung Eom’s magical solo run, blasting past helpless Leicester goalkeeper Jacob Stolarczyk, the difference between the two teams that look to be heading in different directions in the table.
“The goal is a wonderful goal, it is an unbelievable run from Jisung, you can see he is a good player who is in a good moment in terms of confidence, said Matos after the game.
“Then it was a great touch from Vipi and a brilliant finish, and there were a lot of positives.”
Vipotnik’s 21st strike of the season sees the Slovenian remain at the summit of the league’s top scorers, and favourite for the golden boot with a five-goal cushion ahead of Coventry City frontman Haji Wright with just four matches of the campaign remaining.
“He [Vipotnik] is an important player; he’s more than scoring goals; he helps the team in a lot of departments. He understands the importance that he has in terms of the collective, continued Matos.
“We’re just happy that he keeps scoring, we care a lot about him, we renewed his contract, we take care of him and his family, and show how much we can help him to develop. He understands how important he is to the team.
“We are growing in maturity and tactical understanding. We were aware and ready for everything, like when Vipi makes the block on the line.
“But today I think once again the most important thing was the mentality the team showed.
“To get the clean sheet, the consistency we showed, and the way we understood that there were moments in the game where we would need to be compact, was really good.
“We had good moments, of course we need to have more continuous spells like that, but we were solid and stable.
“We have been close to a result like this in the last two games, the hunger and desire was there and I am so happy for the players.”
