A spokesperson for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said its Emergency Department is “currently very busy” with demand placing significant strain on services.
The trust is also dealing with the impact of ongoing industrial action, further affecting capacity.

Patients are being urged to attend the ED only if they have a life-threatening condition or injury, with officials warning that those with less urgent conditions may face long waits or be redirected to alternative services.
Residents are encouraged to seek help through NHS 111, contact their GP or pharmacist, or visit an urgent treatment centre where appropriate.
A spokesperson for the Trust said: “Thank you for helping us prioritise care for those who need it most.”
Earlier this year, the British Medical Association announced resident doctors will strike from April 7 to April 13, with patients being advised to attend appointments unless contacted otherwise.
