Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury has been on the receiving end of strong criticism from football fans after a comment he made during the Super Sunday coverage of Manchester City’s win at Chelsea.

The Citizens closed the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table to just six points, while still having a game in hand, thanks to goals from Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku. Pep Guardiola’s men struggled to get going in the first half, but put the Blues to the sword after the break.

9 Arsenal and Man City Players at Risk of Not Getting Premier League Winner’s Medal

Arsenal and Man City are getting closer as they fight to lift the Premier League trophy, but some players may not get a medal.

They are aiming to add to the EFL Cup they already won last month, after defeating the Gunners 2-0 at Wembley, by overtaking the north Londoners to regain the Premier League trophy. However, it’s not the only competition the Citizens are still active in.

Peter Drury Called ‘Disrespectful’ During Chelsea vs Man City

Man City will play against Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final, while Chelsea will take on Leeds United in the capital. That means they could meet again in the final of England’s oldest cup competition, but it’s far from a certainty.

Unfortunately for Drury, he accidentally told viewers that Sunday afternoon’s contest would be repeated in the FA Cup final. While he did quickly correct himself, supporters of other clubs aren’t happy.

“Peter Drury commentating at the kick-off of the Chelsea vs Man City game, saying ‘Well, next month, this will be the cup final’. Well, that’s just rude and unnecessary,” one X user stated.

Another disgruntled viewer added: “Shocking commentary and so disrespectful to Leeds and Southampton,” while Sky Sports were urged to give the 58-year-old a talking to: “F*** Off Peter Drury…’This will be the Cup Final next month’!!!!!! Sky Sports have a word with your biased commentator, will you?”

Others were baffled by Drury’s apparent mystic powers, with one fan pointing out: “Seems like Peter Drury on Sky Sports knows who’s in the cup final next month before the semis have been played.”

“Dear me, Peter Drury! Talking about Chelsea v Man City: ‘Next month this will be the cup final’ then corrected himself and said, ‘Or might well be’. Disrespectful to Southampton and Leeds.”
