With just 2 months to go before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina national team is beginning to face some concerns: Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez was injured during the warm-up before Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
The Argentine goalkeeper was seen grimacing in pain while kicking the ball, and after consulting with the English club’s coaching staff, he stopped his pre-match movements and will not even be on the bench.
This raises alarm bells for Scaloni, since Dibu is undoubtedly one of the untouchables when it comes to the national team lineup. While they await the medical tests and their results, the goalkeeper’s future remains uncertain.
In addition, this comes on top of Lautaro Martínez’s injury at Inter. He had just recovered from a muscle tear and scored two goals against Roma, but suffered a recurrence of the same issue. He is expected to need 15 days to recover.
