Ipswich Town are ready to rival Coventry City for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth’s signature this summer, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed.

The Tractor Boys are planning to resume their interest in the 24-year-old shot-stopper following his standout Championship campaign under manager Frank Lampard.

Rushworth is believed to be a long-term target for Ipswich and faces a summer decision over his next move, with his future at parent club Brighton remaining unclear.

The 24-year-old joined Brighton’s academy in 2019 but has yet to make a senior appearance for the Seagulls, who currently have Bart Verbruggen, Jason Steele and Tom McGill as first-team goalkeepers.

According to Nixon, Ipswich are keen on a deal for Rushworth ahead of the summer and would be ready to secure the 24-year-old regardless of whether they achieve Premier League promotion.

The Tractor Boys are said to be open to both a loan or permanent move and are prepared to return for the ‘top’ goalkeeper after their previous bid failed.

Ipswich are looking to replace Christian Walton, who has been the club’s primary shot-stopper this season, and have the funds to pursue a top-class name to boost Kieran McKenna’s squad.

Coventry are also expected to chase another move for Rushworth, who is under contract at Brighton until the summer of 2027 and was reportedly wanted by Manchester United last summer.

The Championship leaders have earmarked Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, who is spending the season on loan at Millwall, as an alternative ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Lampard’s side missed the chance to move one point away from promotion on Saturday, when they were held to a goalless draw by strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

Ipswich regained second place in the Championship following a 2-0 away victory at Norwich yesterday, trailing Coventry by 10 points with two games in hand.

Jaden Philogene Ignites Premier League Interest

Jaden Philogene

Jaden Philogene has been one of the driving forces behind Ipswich’s promotion push this season, with the 24-year-old attracting interest from several Premier League clubs as a result.

According to reports, Crystal Palace are seriously considering a summer move for the 24-year-old forward, who has registered 10 goals and two assists in 29 appearances this season.

Ipswich are in a strong negotiating position for the ex-Aston Villa winger, who is under contract at Portman Road until the summer of 2029.
