    ON THIS DAY 1999:

For the second year in a row. Newcastle made it to the FA Cup Semi Final, hosted at Old Trafford, and for the second year in a row, it was Alan Shearer scoring the decisive goal to take Newcastle to Wembley.

A stalemate on the pitch forced the game to extra time, and the substitution of Duncan Ferguson on to the pitch turned the game in the Magpie’s favour.

The goal that broke the deadlock was an often forgotten penalty, including in this video clip, but such was the second goal, it is understandable.

Shearer held up play expertly with his back to goal, before laying the ball off to Marić, who put it back across Shearer’s body, for him to rifle an absolute thunderbastard in to the top corner. Running one hand aloft towards the delirious Newcastle supporters.

An Old Trafford FA Cup Semi-Final, a Shearer winner causing mass hysteria on Tyneside. Would the result in the FA Cup final at Wembley be the same this year?…

While similar, I think this is better than Cisse’s goal vs Chelsea. Purely because Shearer could do this again. Cisse’s was a fluke.
