Nuno Espirito Santo has been hailed as a legend of Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of West Ham United’s crunch clash with them on Friday night.

It is a huge game for West Ham, while Wolves also need to win if they can even think about staging what would be the most remarkable of great escapes.

Sorry Pablo, but this team (if fit) are beating Wolves 👍

Any changes?

Indeed, West Ham versus Wolves is as big as they come at the bottom of the Premier League table and Edwards has been praising Nuno in the build-up.

Edwards hails Nuno as a Wolves legend

Nuno hasn’t always enjoyed a brilliant relationship with West Ham fans, although that could all change if he manages to keep them in the Premier League this season.

The story is very different at Molineux, however.

In fact, Edwards has gone as far as to call the Portuguese a “legend” at the club.

How do you feel about fans booing Max Kilman? 😳

Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Edwards said: “It’s [the game] not us against him. He’s a brilliant manager who rightly has legendary status at this club.”

Nuno, of course, won the Championship with Wolves in 2018 and ended up taking them into Europe.

He might not ever achieve legendary status in east London but it is a reminder of what a fine head coach the Hammers have in the dugout.

Nuno has actually only lost one game against Wolves in his six meetings with them since leaving in 2021.

Crucially, however, that came during his West Ham stint, when his side lost 3-0 at Molineux in January. They have improved since, but anything other than three points could prove fatal.

Prior to that, he’d won three and drawn two of his five games against the Midlands club.

Hopefully for West Ham, that dreadful defeat in January was a blip more than anything else.

There can be no room for sentiment. Nuno’s Wolves past will not matter when everything kicks off on Friday night.
