Rico Wilson, 35 and of Swansbury Drive in Bournemouth, appeared on a video link at Winchester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, April 9.

Wilson wore a black headscarf and a green and yellow jumpsuit.

He was seen crying ahead of the hearing and wiping his eyes.

He is charged with the murder of 41-year-old James Blanch from Christchurch after an alleged assault outside MyBar in Charminster Road.

It was previously reported police were called to an incident outside the bar at around 3am on Monday, April 6.

Mr Blanch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutor, Christopher Wing, said a plea and trial preparation hearing has been set for July 10.

A trial date has also been set for October 5, lasting for three-weeks.

Although, Wilson is yet to enter any pleas to the murder charge.

Judge Angela Morris continued to remand Wilson into custody due to the nature of the charge.

Two men from Bournemouth – aged 37 and 46 – and a 34-year-old man from Poole who were arrested on suspicion of murder following the death have been released without charge.

The 37-year-old man from Bournemouth was further arrested for a public order offence and assaulting an emergency worker. He remains released under investigation for these offences.

A 39-year-old man from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Mr Blanch’s family described the father-of-two as ‘incredible and loveable’ in a tribute following his death.

They said: “Our lovely James was sadly taken away from us.

“He was the most incredible, lovable human that lit up any room with his massive smile.

“He was not just my husband but an incredible father to our two beautiful children who are heartbroken beyond belief.

“My James was an amazing husband, father son, brother, uncle and friend.

“He was the most loyal person who would do anything for anyone.

“James would just make everything better and always tell you that ‘it’s going to be alright’.

“Everything he did was for his two children who he loved more than anything in the world.

“I am forever grateful for our 18 years together and I will continue to make you proud with our two children.

“We are all utterly heartbroken and nothing will ever feel the same again.

“We love you James, daddy, today, tomorrow and forever.

“Leanne, Ronnie and Blossom.”
