AFC Bournemouth supporters, known as the Handlebarmy Army, will cycle the 400 miles from Dorset to St James’ Park in Newcastle to raise funds for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA).
The team is riding in tribute to team leader Dave Harris’ son Teddy, who was born with the condition in 2024.

Mr Harris said: “This challenge is about football, friendship, and giving something back.
“CLAPA is incredibly close to our hearts.
“The support they provide to families—from diagnosis through surgery and beyond—makes a real and lasting difference.
“We’re honoured to raise awareness and funds for such an important cause.”
The ride begins on April 15 at Bournemouth’s Dean Court, with the cyclists aiming to arrive in Newcastle on April 17.
They will embark on a route that covers approximately 130 miles per day and culminates just in time for AFC Bournemouth’s away fixture against Newcastle United on Saturday, April 18.
CLAPA supports families affected by cleft lip and palate, a condition that affects around one in 700 babies in the UK each year.
The Handlebarmy Army has a history of taking on ambitious charity rides.
The group first formed in 2015, cycling 300 miles from Bournemouth to Manchester and raising more than £5,000 for Dorset Cancer Care.
In 2022, the cyclists reunited for a 1,000-mile journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End, raising more than £12,000 for charity.
Mr Harris said: “We’ve had incredible support from the football community over the years, and we’re excited to bring both sets of supporters together for this challenge.
“Whether you support Bournemouth, Newcastle, or any other club, this is about coming together for a brilliant cause.”
This latest ride is their most challenging yet, taking on the Premier League’s furthest away fixture by bike.
Supporters can donate through the group’s JustGiving page at justgiving.com/team/handlebarmyarmy, follow their journey on social media, or contribute items for their charity raffle.
