Manchester United have turned their transfer record around under Ineos, and they have followed a very similar blueprint to the one that has made Bayern Munich favourites for the Champions League.

Bayern Munich dismantled Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabeu this week to continue their march to Champions League glory under Vincent Kompany, and Manchester United are trying to follow a similar path.

United’s transfer record before Ineos was horrid, but there are promising signs that the recruitment strategy has improved.

In particular, United overhauled their attack last summer with Premier League-proven signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arriving and hitting the ground running at Old Trafford.

Man United mirrored Bayern Munich’s attacking overhaul

Bayern have one of the most fearsome front threes in European football currently, with Harry Kane flanked by Michael Olise and Luis Diaz.

As per FotMob, Kane, Olise and Diaz all rank in the top 10 highest-rated players in the Champions League this season.

Just three years ago, Bayern were lining up with an attack of Leroy Sane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry. Bayern’s transfer team focused on signing proven European stars in their prime, rather than splashing huge fees on unproven youngsters.

Ineos took a similar approach by signing Mbeumo and Cunha last season, and they have been two of the biggest transfer success stories at Old Trafford in recent years.

Moving forward, United should prioritise Premier League-proven stars, rather than solely stacking the squad with youngsters. Bayern have shown the road to success, now Ineos must follow the blueprint again with the midfield overhaul.

It is no secret that United are overhauling their midfield in 2026, with multiple midfield signings expected to arrive.

United’s midfield shortlist is mostly made up of Premier League-proven stars such as Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba.

That is a promising sign that Ineos have learned from their attacking signings last summer and are looking to repeat that strategy this summer.

While Ineos have made a habit of signing wonderkids at United, it is important that the midfielders who arrive this summer are direct improvements to the starting XI, and also players who are ready to compete at a Champions League level.
