Working in elite football is no strange thing for UCFB graduates, and one more has found himself working at the height of sports media, covering the Premier League.
Jack Fealy, who learned much about the field while studying BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism, works as a media coordinator at Premier League Productions, managed by IMG Media.
As a member of contest ingest, Jack goes out a lot on shoots and collects content for Premier League Production’s separate strands.
This can include pitchside content, filming different angles of matches, in addition to interviews, press conferences, or even going through Premier League archives for new content.
“A day here is never the same,” he said. “It’s mental, but a good mental.
“It’s the best job in the world because you’re working in football. It doesn’t feel like a job. It’s weird; you get you get used to seeing these famous players and ex pros around the building and on site. It’s mental.”
Jack first became aware of Premier League Productions after meeting with them at a UCFB day visiting the organisation, and networked while there, which led to him securing his current role at the company.
Speaking about his time studying with us, Jack said: “Multimedia Sports Journalism was my course at UCFB. A great course.
“I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to go into written journalism or see what broadcasting is actually like.
“My favourite thing about UCFB is the social side, becoming an adult and doing things all for yourself. It really gives you great experience, being at university away from home for three years.
“Also, being where I was at Wembley, living in London was amazing. It was a fantastic experience.”
He added: “Funnily enough, there’s quite a few of us who work at Premier Productions who went to UCFB.
“It’s great. We’re essentially working with people who we already know, we’ve already got friends here, it’s fantastic.
“It’s great that UCFB are now been recognised as this hub of sports education, where we’re taught by sports leading professionals who have worked in the industry, and we learn the knowledge from them to bring into these places like The FA, The Premier League and The EFL, where we can use the knowledge we’ve learned at UCFB and turn it into work.”
He finished by offering advice to UCFB students wanting a career one day like his in sports media.
“Be proactive,” he said. “It’s such a competitive field of work. There’s 100,000 other people who want to do the same.
“Go out to talk to people, get work experience, even if it’s come in and shadow someone’s shift, just to put yourself out there and show that you’re interested and essentially to learn from others.”
