Amad Diallo is now recognised as a regular in the Manchester United line-up, but there was a time when he had to work his way through the ranks playing for the under-21s, like Jack Moorhouse is currently doing.

Manchester United are always looking to develop young players and get them ready for first-team football.

Some of them don’t make it at Old Trafford, but move on to enjoy careers elsewhere. Amad Diallo is an example of an academy graduate who worked hard to get his opportunity in United’s first team.

Now, Amad is considered one of United’s star players, striking a strong connection with Bryan Mbeumo on and off the pitch.

United academy star Jack Moorhouse will be hoping to get selected for the pre-season squad this summer.

The 20-year-old midfielder was recalled from his Leyton Orient loan in January, only to occasionally train with the senior team.

Moorhouse made 24 appearances for Leyton Orient, but it was agreed between the two clubs that a recall would be best for his development.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Ireland, Amad was asked about Moorhouse before sending a message of advice to the young midfielder.

“I think yeah, it’s up to him to do well, work hard, be humble,” Amad said.

“He knows how the club is. If you want to be the maximum level you have to work hard. A club like United you demand a lot. I wish him all the best.”

Moorhouse has never been part of United’s pre-season squad, but that could change in 2026 unless there is movement during the transfer window.

Good time to be a young midfielder at Man Utd

It’s going to be a busy summer for United in terms of head coach appointments and player recruitment.

With Casemiro’s exit on the horizon, the Red Devils are expected to revamp the midfield.

United fans are hoping to see two or three midfield additions, but there will be room for academy prospects to compete for a place in the squad.

Moorhouse and other young midfielders at United should take inspiration from Kobbie Mainoo, who is back in the team alongside Casemiro.
