Newcastle United have seven games to change the complexion of their Premier League season as the disappointment of last month’s derby defeat to Sunderland still lingers.
After exiting the FA Cup and the Champions League, Newcastle find themselves in 12th place in the Premier League table and are facing an uphill battle to end the season strongly and qualify for European football next term.
Regardless of how the season ends, though, it feels like this summer will be a reboot for a squad that has achieved so much in the last four-and-a-half years.
That will inevitably mean the club’s transfer business will ramp up, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, and with that in mind we have rounded up the latest transfer rumours surrounding Newcastle.

Johan Martinez deal close
Newcastle have moved a step closer to securing the signature of highly rated teenage forward Johan Martinez from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that documents have now been counter signed and Martinez will be confirmed as a Newcastle player in due course.
The 16-year-old forward will join the club when he is 18-year-old and hopes are high as he comes from an academy that also produced Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie and PSG defender Willian Pacho.
Brotherly love
A bizarre report from Germany claims Brighton are the front runners to sign FC Koln winger Said El-Mala because they are also willing to sign his brother, Malek.
The 19-year-old winger has taken the Bundesliga by storm since joining the club from third tier Viktoria Koln in the summer and has 10 goals and four assists to his name.
That has sparked interest from a number of clubs but it is Brighton who have the upper hand as they are willing to sign his brother, who plays for FC Koln II as a forward.

Brighton situation set to come to a head
According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle sent scouts to watch Coventry City’s 3-2 win over Derby County on Friday to run the rule over goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and midfielder Jack Rudoni.
Newcastle were linked with a move for Rudoni last summer and the 24-year-old has kicked on another gear this season, scoring seven goals and registering six assists to move Coventry on the brink of promotion from the Championship.
Meanwhile, Rushworth has asserted himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship during his loan spell at Coventry from Brighton and his future is one to watch with interest this summer.

The 24-year-old has just one more year remaining on his deal at Brighton and a decision will be made over whether to cash in on him or keep him at the club.
The Seagulls’ current No 1 is Dutch international Bart Verbruggen, who has also been linked with Newcastle, while they also have Jason Steele, who received an England call-up last month and James Beadle, who won the under-21 European Championships with the Young Lions last summer, on loan at Birmingham.
It feels like something will have to give in the goalkeeper department this summer and Newcastle could well be the beneficiaries.
