A new live music venue will open in Leicester at a time when it has never been “more important” for the city.

Dale Walton, a local promoter, is filling the gap left behind by a string of recent closures in the city which have rocked music fans.

Last week, it was announced that O2 Academy on the University of Leicester’s campus will close.

The news came months after The Shed announced its closure in December, which was described as a new blow to ‘dying’ Leicester.

Dale, 46, who runs Loaded Club Nights – a brand with more than 15,000 followers, plans to spearhead a revival of the city’s music scene with his new venue Sally Cinnamon’s.

The music venue in Cank Street – named after The Stone Roses’ single – will put on live music every weekend from local up-and-coming indie bands to some of the biggest tribute acts in the country.

Dale, who was also behind Ronnie Roos’ bar, which closed in 2024, told LeicestershireLive: “Never has it been more important to open a venue like Sally Cinnamon’s right now in Leicester.

“With venue closures it’s all doom and gloom but fear not, a new live music venue for Leicester is arriving.

“Sally Cinnamon’s will have live music every weekend boasting grass roots bands and local up and coming indie bands.

“Fridays and Saturdays will play host to some of the biggest tributes in the country.

“There are only a few tickets left for the launch night so grab them while you can.”

A host of events are already planned, with the first being a performance from Nontaines D.C, the world’s first tribute group of Irish rock band Fontaines D.C.

The following day will feature The Complete Stone Roses, a well-known tribute band to The Stone Roses.

This event, which will also feature a performance by local singer-songwriter Ryan Dunn, has already sold out.

Several other events are planned with tributes to Oasis, Amy Winehouse, Joy Division, The Smiths, and more.

Sally Cinnamon’s will open on Saturday, May 2. Tickets for the launch night among other events are available on Skiddle.

The 100-capacity venue is opening in partnership with Ivy Lounge, a bar that started welcoming customers in March.
