Newcastle United could look to Manchester City’s Rico Lewis ahead of a huge rebuild of the squad.

After a disappointing season, Newcastle United are expected to rebuild their squad in the summer of 2026

There has already been confirmation of a big-name defensive exit, following the news that Kieran Trippier has announced he is leaving Newcastle at the end of the season

An absolute legend is leaving the club 😔 – how do you look back on Trippier’s time here?

Tino Livramento has also been linked with a move away from the club, and City star Lewis is thought to be a target.

According to The Chronicle, the club are keen on the five-cap England international.

Lewis has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola this season, making only 11 starts across all competitions.

As such, the two-time Premier League winner has been tipped for an exit.

Assuming Tino goes too – who on earth should we sign at right-back?! 🤔

Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on a move for the 21-year-old, who still has four years to run on his contract.

City, then, are in a strong bargaining position and the report adds that the value their academy graduate at more than £30million.

It’s claimed that City’s ongoing interest in Livramento is deemed separate to Newcastle’s interest in Lewis.

At 21, Lewis has a lot of potential upsides. Able to operate in several positions, Newcastle would be getting a very versatile player.

Still, he has not exactly covered himself in glory over the past two seasons, and anyone arriving to potentially replace Trippier or Livramento would have big shoes to fill.

They have both been excellent for the club, with Trippier establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Newcastle history.

There will need to be a changing of the guard at some point, but Lewis has not done enough in recent seasons to suggest he is on either of their levels.
